Food and nutrition play an increasingly visible and important role in ensuring the health of individuals, families and communities—and registered dietitian nutritionists serve as leaders and advocates in this growing field. Messiah University’s dietetics MBA concentration provides nutritionists with the theoretical and practical skills to lead and serve in a variety of medical, government, community and business settings.
MBA – Dietetics concentration
Messiah University’s nationally ranked MBA is designed for recent graduates and working professionals who seek to exponentially grow their careers and opportunities, expand their level of influence and deliver transformative impact to the businesses, organizations and communities they serve. The MBA with a concentration in dietetics is available to those who have completed an ACEND-approved, credit-bearing (minimum of nine graduate-level credits) dietetic internship.

Current and future graduate business and leadership students’ degrees will be grandfathered-in and be considered ACBSP accredited based upon this approval.

The curriculum and coursework for Messiah University’s MBA is designed to be instantly relevant to your area of study and career.
Option 1: Completion of Messiah University’s Dietetic Internship (19 credits)
This course provides an introduction to professional development activities required for the registered dietitian credential. Topics include servant leadership, assessment of professional knowledge and skill, and introduction to interprofessional education. Participation at professional meetings may be required.
NUTR 503 / 1 Credit
This course provides continued experience with professional development activities required for the registered dietitian credential. Course topics include preparing for the national registered dietitian exam, job applications, leadership, and interprofessional education. Professional meeting attendance is required.
NUTR 505 / 1 Credit
This course provides preceptor supervised practical experiences in medical Nutrition therapy in inpatient settings. Students will learn to assess Nutritional status, prioritize patient needs, design appropriate Nutrition interventions, and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Nutrition therapy. Additional activities and assignments related to supervised practice experiences are assigned.
NUTR 511 / 8 Credits
This course includes supervised practical experiences in three areas: food service, outpatient nutrition education, and community programs for food insecure individuals. Additional activities and assignments related to supervised practice experiences are assigned.
NUTR 525 / 9 Credits
Option 2: Completion of an ACEND-approved, credit-bearing (minimum of 9 graduate level credits) Dietetic Internship
Verification Statement and official transcript are required. All other graduate-level transfer credit policies are applicable.
Program Core Requirements (27 credits)
This course focuses on the interpretation of financial information for making effective business decisions. Students will examine accounting and finance primarily from the perspective of the user (e.g., senior manager) of the information as opposed to the preparer (e.g., accountant). Topics of this course include financial theories for maximizing returns, financial statements, common financial analysis frameworks, ratios, financial modeling, cash flow analysis, asset management, liabilities, shareholder equity, investments, and valuations.
ACCT 501 / 3 Credits
This course focuses on values-led organizations, examining topics such as vision, mission, core values, strategy, planning, and management execution. In addition, this course provides opportunities for students to apply management techniques to aid in strategic planning and execution in a changing business environment, and to examine how faith informs and gives purpose to business and profits.
BUSA 501 / 3 Credits
This course focuses on how to effectively use business data analytics in decision-making. Students will learn various techniques for collecting, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative business data. Students will be able to apply decision-making tools to aid businesses in managing risk and effectively executing and adapting their strategy in a changing business environment.
BUSA 505 / 3 Credits
This course focuses on new product, service, and business model innovation with a special emphasis on entrepreneurial ventures. Topics in this course include market strategies, industry analysis, competitive forces, business model generation, customer value proposition creation, LEAN startup practices, securing financial capital, and business pitching practices.
BUSA 510 / 3 Credits
This course is an independent learning experience designed to allow the student the opportunity to incorporate the material learned in the MBA program in an integrative, applied project. Students in this course complete a field project in an organization of their choice, supervised by a faculty member.
BUSA 590 / 3 Credits
This course examines how to effectively grow a business in the global marketplace. Student will examine global business strategy, international financial markets, macroeconomics, and economic development.
ECON 501 / 3 Credits
This course focuses on the historical, academic study of leadership theory. Students will examine the ontology, axiology, and praxis of leadership by examining the various strengths, weaknesses, and contextual constraints of leadership theories and models.
LEAD 515 / 3 Credits
This course focuses on theories, approaches, and techniques to evaluate, measure, and maximize an organization’s effectiveness at achieving its desired outcomes. Students examine how leadership, organizational structure, people, work processes, policies and procedures, systems, and organizational culture influence effectiveness.
LEAD 550 / 3 Credits
This course defines the core concepts of marketing and describes how its many parts are applied in effective marketing plans. Students examine marketing’s theoretical foundations as well its challenging contemporary issues as they explore ways to apply market strategies in uncertain and ever changing environments. Special attention is paid to the integration of faith into these decisions and strategies.
